Trick or Treating with Peachy

Yesterday was Halloween and what an exciting day it was! This was my second Halloween but it has been my favourite one so far. Last year I dressed up and gave out candy with mommy and daddy. This year I was right in the center of all the Halloween activities.

It all started the night before when mommy, daddy, and I carved our pumpkins. Last year I slept through all of the pumpkin carving fun, but this year I was able to see it all happen. My favourite part was using the pumpkin like a drum, but stealing mommy’s stencil and chasing wayward pumpkin seeds was fun too.

At the end of the pumpkin carving daddy put a candle in each pumpkin and turned the lights down low. This made the pumpkins glow strangely and I was a bit hesitant to approach them at first. Mommy turned the lights up just a little and that helped me feel more confident.

A bit spooky.

The next day was Halloween but the morning was rather uneventful. Daddy went to work and mommy and I had our usual routine. The afternoon was a bit strange because rather than heading up to my room for a nap, I had a short snooze on the couch with mommy. I woke up just in time to see daddy come home.

Mommy fed me a good meal while daddy set up our pumpkins on the porch and put the finishing touches on our Halloween decorations. Then it was time to put on my costume and it started to feel like a special day. Mommy put me in a gray shirt with long sleeves and black pants to keep me warm, and then my costume went on top. I think it worked out quite nicely.

After a quick photo shoot I was ready to go see what Halloween is all about. We went to visit all of our neighbours and we even walked up and down our street a little visiting everyone who had their porch light on. All of our neighbours commented on how big I’m getting and everyone thought I looked adorable in my cowgirl costume.

At first I was a bit puzzled by tick or treating. We walked up to a door, mommy rang the doorbell, and when the door opened I naturally began to head inside. That’s generally what we do in that situation. This time mommy held me back and instead she made me hold my pumpkin bucket. Then to make things more confusing, the person on the other side of the door began to put candy in my bucket!

I looked in my bucket and then I gave the person a good look too. Before I could react mommy turned me around and we were heading back towards the road again. In no time we were at another door and the same thing happened again. This time I had the sense not to bolt inside the house but I still stood in awe as candy was dropped into my pumpkin bucket.

At the third house we had to wait a moment before the door opened and I took that time to rummage around in my bucket. After that mommy carried my bucket for me. By the next house I knew what to expect and I was trick or treating like a pro. All you have to do is show up and people give you candy. Why don’t we do this every night?

I could do this every day!

Overall I had a wonderful time even though it was a bit cold. People often wanted to talk to me and I got several extra pieces of candy for being so adorable. I wasn’t even afraid except for just one time when a large monster tried to eat me.

At first it seemed like a regular house until we were halfway up the driveway. I spotted a large glowing monster standing by the stairs and I started to slow down. Mommy said it was just a Halloween decoration and that it was full of air. If you were a monster wouldn’t you pose as a Halloween decoration on the one day you could hide in plain sight?

Mommy held my hand and I took a couple more steps but then I decided that was close enough and I sat down. I started to get quite concerned and mommy saw that I had my super sad face on. She scooped me up and held me close but I still didn’t want that monster any closer. That monster wasn’t going to fool me.

Since I didn’t want to walk past the monster, the nice lady who was standing on the porch came down to see me. She said I was being very brave and she gave me extra candy. At that point I felt alright about standing there on the driveway as long as that monster didn’t try anything funny. It all worked out and soon we were walking away leaving the scary monster behind us.

After a while of trick or treating I was truly getting the hang of things. I knew to walk up to the door and wait patiently. After the candy was safely in my pumpkin bucket I understood that it was time to leave and head over to the next house. My bucket was just about full by the time the cold started to bother us and we decided to head home.

The Halloween festivities weren’t over. Other trick or treaters continued to come to our door and I helped mommy give out some candy. I was becoming quite good at getting the candy into the bags and buckets and by the end of the night I could do it all by myself.

When trick or treaters weren’t at our door, I was examining my Halloween loot. I got cookies, chocolates, candies, lollipops, and bags of chips too. I was very happy with my stash and I spent a long time sorting and organizing my goodies.

Of course it wouldn’t be Halloween without eating some treats. I ate more candy than ever! It made me feel funny and I spun in circles for a while and then raced around the house. As I was beginning to tire out, it was time for a late dinner which perked me up a bit. After dinner I was allowed another piece of candy and then some relaxing time in front of the TV.

Soon it was time for bed and although I was a bit wound up from all that fun and all those treats, I was also quite exhausted from my busy day. As mommy rocked me gently in my room, I thought about all the fun things I did this Halloween. I had a great day and soon I felt myself nodding off.

After a good night’s sleep we’re back to just another regular day except that we still have lots of candy sitting around. So far I only managed to convince mommy to give me one piece of candy today but there’s still time. It was the best Halloween ever and I can’t wait to do it again next year.
