Saving Memories and Funny Feet
I’m often told that I’m a funny kid. Maybe it’s true, I don’t know. It’s not that I try to be funny. I just like to do things my own way and when I find something that I brings me joy I stick with it.
The creation of this post is actually a good example of that. This story was supposed to be written a long time ago and the original plan was quite different. But when inspiration strikes me I chase after what makes me happy. Perhaps it would be better if I start at the beginning.
For almost 2 years now I have been periodically doing something that Mommy has always thought was funny. Every once in a while I like to put Mommy’s oven mitts on my feet. From the first day I did it Mommy knew she wanted to share this with the world and only one thing stood in the way.
The oven mitts have a tendency to find they way onto my feet when I’m in the kitchen with Mommy. While Mommy cooks I play and look for ways to amuse myself. It’s always great fun when Mommy turns around and there I am standing in the middle of the kitchen with big red oven mitts on my lower extremities.
The issue is that these candid moments don’t lend themselves well to being documented in the photographic form. Mommy’s hands are often dirty and there is never a camera around when you need it. For the most part all of the attempts to take a good picture have come too late.
A few months ago I was once again inspired to wear the oven mitts. Mommy ran to the living room for the camera and I hobbled along behind her. This time the mitts stayed in place and it’s the closest we’ve come to a decent photo. Or so we thought.
Today Mommy was going through the photos looking for one we could use. She was somewhat disappointed that the combination of poor lighting and a rambunctious Peachy resulted in blurry photos. All those good intentions and nothing to show for them.
But then I wandered into the scene to see what Mommy has been working on and I spotted the blurry photos. I was quick to point out that the girl in the pictures is Peachy with her funny socks. That reminded me of how much fun that is.
While Mommy continued to lament over the photos and attempted to come up with a way to make them work, I proceeded into the kitchen. After a good rummage around in the drawers, I found what I was looking for. Just a quick wardrobe adjustment later I was waddling back into the living room.
Poor Mommy was so busy looking through the photos on the camera that it took her a moment to notice me standing there dressed up and ready for my photo shoot. As soon as Mommy became aware of the situation, she was quick to spring into action. Within moments the camera was pointed in my direction and a couple of decent photos were soon safely stored on our computer.
That inspired me to change the entire premise of this post. This supposed to be a story about the first time I put oven mitts on my feet but it turned into a post about the day we finally managed to capture the moment not only for this blog but also for our family memories. We can finally stop worrying that this funny part of my childhood will go undocumented and move on to the next moment that we want to capture.
You kids are funny, I would love to know what goes through your little heads sometimes! If you want to wear oven mitts on your feet, you do it! Lol #KCACOLS
Yup. Living in the moment.
Very cute and funny! We have the same problem with taking photos of these important moments – they are moments that pass too quickly and it’s almost impossible to capture them in decent photos! #kcacols
Haha! The camera is never ready when we want to capture those candid moments! Love the photos, nonetheless.
#kcacols
Nope. Never.
Oh how fun! You sound just like me. I keep taking photos in the attempt to document every event. I realize, however, that with 4 GrandLovies I was missing more of the event by taking too many pictures. I am trying to enjoy them in the present and let my mind hold the memories instead of the camera. #KCACOLS
I often feel the same way. But then I go through my photos and realize how much I’ve forgotten. It’s a fine line.
Oven mits on the feet is one I’ve never seen before, thanks for making me smile! #KCACOLS
I’m glad we could brighten your day.
thats hysterical. I’ll bet it keeps your toes nice and warm #KCACOLS
Probably. They are well insulated.
This is so adorable! She is such a cutie! My oldest did this, and sadly, I never got a photo! It is so good that you got one! #KCACOLS
There are so many memories that never got captured.
aww bless her, I say fair play to experiment and explore the world you live in X #kcacols
exploring is her full time job.
We have all been here, waiting for the shot and dying to hit publish. Way to persevere and get what you need. Adorbs too! #KCACOLS ox
Thanks 🙂
Oh I love this post and how it’s written from a child’s perspective! And the photos you captured will certainly be a lovely memory in years to come. They certainly are funny feet! #KCACOLS
Thank you.
Haha how does she walk in them! Glad you managed to get a photo after all 🙂 #KCACOLS
Sort of like one would walk with flippers on. It’s a bit noisy too.
It’s a great feeling isn’t it when you finally capture something like this on camera! What’s made me smile is the mental image of this being something that gets done again for laughs on an 18th birthday! x #KCACOLS
What a great idea!
What a cutie pie. That second photo is just precious! #KCACOLS
Thanks
hehe someone needs slippers! #KCACOLS
Someone has adorable unicorn slippers but will only wear them while riding her tricycle.
How adorable is this. I’ve come across your blog for the first time and I LOVE that you write from your child’s perspective. It’s refreshing and humorous too x #KCACOLS.
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoy it.
Snappy once spent an entire day wearing just one mitten on his left foot. Love kids brains. #kcacols

They look like quite good socks to me! #KCACOLS

Aww, this is very lovely. Thank you for sharing this with your readers. I try to take more photos for memories rather than social media as well! #KCACOLS
This is so cute and I just love how she modeled for the photos. She can improvise which is a very special talent to have these days.
