A Good Deal on Fun

This story begins with a good deal on a hot summer day. We were visiting a local store when the clearance rack caught our attention. Most of the items were of no interest to us, but then Daddy spotted a shiny remote control car. I was quickly on board with the idea as I have always been attracted to cars as well as things that Daddy is interested in.

Mommy objected to the purchase at first insisting that a remote control car was not a suitable toy for a two year old. I wanted to object since I am two and a half, but I couldn’t figure out how to articulate this thought. Daddy managed to turn Mommy around on the idea. It really was a great deal and we are always looking for inexpensive ways to spend an afternoon.

We brought our purchase home and took the remote control car out of the box. I have never seen such a toy before and I was eager to give it a go. I was very disappointed to learn that the battery required charging. While I am not certain what a battery is and why it likes to spoil the fun, I do know from my use of the tablet that when the battery doesn’t want to play there is really no sense in arguing about it.

Let’s play!

The following day the battery was more cooperative and we set off to the park across the street with our new toy stored safely in the bin underneath Clementine’s stroller. There is a school next to the park with a large section of concrete around it. This would be the perfect place to take our remote control car for a test drive.

Before we made it past our driveway, I spotted something on the trunk of daddy’s car. It turned out to be a ladybug! I love ladybugs and I wanted to pet him just a little. Mommy said ladybugs don’t like to be pet and this one didn’t want to play either so we moved on.

Want to come to the park with us?

In no time at all we arrived at our destination. Daddy put the remote control car down and backed away while I promptly ran up and picked it up off the ground. I’ve been playing with toys for some time now and I know you must get your hands on them to play.

Daddy seemed to disagree and after a short debate, the car was back on the ground. How are we were supposed to play with our new toy without touching it? Then the remote control car moved! My initial reaction was shock and surprise but I recovered quickly and set off in pursuit.

After several minutes of chasing the car around in circles, Mommy pointed out that this was Peachy’s new car and not a toy for Daddy. I felt that Mommy was making a good point and that it was my turn to play.

My turn!

Daddy handed me a small plastic box with buttons on it. I had no idea how this contraption fit in with the remote control car. On the other hand I have never shied away from a button and had no issues with pressing each one in turn. Then Daddy pointed out that all my button pressing was having an effect on the car. That was unexpected!

After a brief tutorial on the buttons and some careful observation, I was ready to play. I sent the little car zooming back and forth while I jogged behind pointing the little box at it. Daddy said I didn’t have to follow the car around but that didn’t make any sense to me.

Having fun

I must admit that the controls were a bit tricky. Forward and reverse was easy enough to master but turning was a much more difficult concept to grasp. I could see that these buttons were having an effect on the remote control car, but it proved impossible to predict  the outcome. For the most part it would appear that those controls send the car flying in a random direction.

Overall it was a great day and money well spent. We took our toy out several times over the next few weeks and each time was just as much fun as the first. The turning controls still have me baffled but that doesn’t stop me from having a good time. We never would have guessed that an impulse buy would have turned out to be such a great purchase.

I really didn’t thing Peachy was old enough to understand how it works but she didn’t seem to have much trouble figuring it out. She still struggles with steering the thing, but then again so do I. Thanks for visiting.

Me too. That’s why I just had to include it in the post. Peachy has been watching this show called Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom. One of the characters has a pet ladybug and ever since she’s been watching the show she just loves ladybugs. Thanks for reading.

Thanks. It’s easier now that Peachy is actually talking. It’s just a matter of articulating it a bit better. But I’ve been doing it since she was a baby so I’m used to it. And now I’m starting over with Clementine. Thanks for visiting.
