The Perpetual Motion Machine

I am a bundle of energy with vigour to spare. Utilized correctly my energy could power a city block. Instead I use my energy to thoroughly exhaust mommy and leave chaos in my wake. I emit havoc and mayhem, leaving a residue of pandemonium wherever I go.

Right after breakfast I burn off a bit of energy by racing circles around mommy while she tries to tidy up a little. I try to be useful by helping mommy put my dishes in the dishwasher but mommy always insists that she do it herself. I can be insistent too and I prove it by attempting to climb into the dishwasher in pursuit of the whisk. Mommy pulls me out and closes the dishwasher.

While mommy wipes the table I crawl underneath in search of wayward Cheerios. I thought I was full but somehow there is always room for floor food. I manage to eat a few Cheerios before mommy becomes aware of the crunching sounds coming from underneath the table. A quick sweep with the broom puts an end to my fun.

I attempt to do a thorough investigation of the broom’s findings as mommy gives the kitchen floor a quick sweep. Every time I try to grab at the growing pile of treasure mommy moves it out of my reach with the broom. It’s a fun game! Mommy doesn’t agree. The game is over when mommy puts the broom away.

I spot something out of the corner of my eye. It’s one of our cats coming around the corner. I take off in pursuit screaming as I go and the cat makes a run for it. “Get back here and let me love you!” I yell on my own way. The cat doesn’t listen and I lose track of him behind the couch.

I hear commotion on the other side of the couch and I run over to investigate. It’s mommy setting up my foam floor! I rush over to lend a helping hand and together we get the job done in no time. Mommy stretches out on the floor and I watch with curiosity. This is no time for a nap. There are adventures to be had!

Peachy waiting for mommy to get up
If you don’t get up I’m coming down there.

I pounce on mommy and attempt to use her tummy as a trampoline. She makes a funny noise and wraps me into a bear hug. As I wiggle out of her arms she rolls over and I climb onto her back to ride the mommy horse. I love this game! Mommy doesn’t agree about this one either.

As I bounce around on mommy’s spine I take her yelps and grunts as a sign that she’s secretly having fun and I bounce higher. I throw myself head first off mommy’s back while she tries to catch me and ease me down gently. Mommy’s frantic attempts to save me are hilarious and I get a serious case of the giggles.

Mommy sits up and tickles my tummy, then she covers my face in kisses. I try to swat mommy away but the giggles make it hard to concentrate. I swat, shriek, kick, and giggle until mommy sits back up. I jump to my feet and grab mommy’s ponytail. I yank it this way and that way while watching mommy’s head move around in response. Another great game that mommy doesn’t seem to have any love for.

Mommy tries to distract me with a stuffed animal. I try to ignore it but mommy sings a silly song and makes the toy dance to the beat. I can’t help but join in with a little dance of my own. The song comes to an end and I stomp my feet as fast as I can. Then I race off towards the kitchen.

With no particular destination in mind, I run circles around the kitchen island. On my fourth lap I spot something under the refrigerator. I come to a stop and do a bit of a belly flop onto the floor. I impersonate a pancake and flatten myself as much as I can while I peer into the darkness under the fridge. There’s something under there!

Carefully I reach under the refrigerator and pull out something that resembles a wrinkly grape. I love grapes! Mommy arrives in the kitchen just as I’m about to plop the grape into my mouth. With a shriek mommy lunges for my hand sending the grape flying across the room. We both take off in pursuit of the grape but mommy gets there before I do.

Mommy opens the fridge, pulls out my lunch, and packs it in my diaper bag. I know that means we’re going to the park. There’s lots of space to run around there and plenty of things for me to explore. I love it when mommy takes me to the park. I get to run and play until I’m tired and then I have my lunch while I watch the big kids play.

I jump up in excitement and race to the front door. I look back to make sure mommy is on her way and she is! I’m giddy with anticipation and very impatient but I suppress my need to squirm while mommy puts my shoes on. After what feels like at least an eternity, mommy has her shoes on and we’re on our way. I love the park and that’s something mommy and I can agree on.
