Mommy Knows
Over the last few months I have been experimenting with mobility. I have developed my own way of getting around and I am now able to control the direction I wiggle in. As my skills grow, mommy has been giving me a bit more freedom to explore areas of the house on my own.
I like exploring! Many things interest me. There is so much I want to see, touch, and taste. When mommy sets me down on the ground, I immediately take off in search of adventures. My hands go flap, flap, flap against the floor as I go.
I go over to one of my toys, plunk down on my tush, and play with my treasure for a while. I spot a ball that I stuffed under the couch the day before. I wiggle over to the couch, flatten myself on my belly, and stretch as far as I can. The ball is beyond my reach. I sit up again and look around for something else to play with.
I see a little red light on the bottom of the tv. I wiggle over for a closer look, flap, flap, flap. As I approach, I notice that the boxes under the tv are covered in lights and buttons. I get right up to the boxes, plunk down, and look up at them in amazement. I get my finger ready, I aim, and I move towards a big shiny button.
“Peachy, no.” I hear the words and I freeze.
I turn towards the source of the words and I see mommy watching me. I put my finger away and flash an innocent smile. Mommy goes back to what she was doing. I sit and watch mommy for a little while to make sure that she is busy. Then my trusty finger comes back up and gets into position in front of the big shiny button.
“Peachy, no. That’s not for Peachies.” I drop my hand in a hurry.
I look at mommy and see her looking back at me. I wiggle back over to my toy, flap, flap, flap, and I show mommy that I have no interest in the button. I pick up my toy, look at mommy, and I smile. Mommy looks away again but this time I know better than to go back to the button. I play and watch mommy out of the corner of my eye.
A few minutes later daddy comes over to where mommy is sitting. He shows her something that he’s holding and the two of them talk. Here is my chance. I drop my toy and wiggle over to the button as quickly as I can. My hands go flap, flap, flap faster than ever.
In no time at all I’m sitting in front of the button again. Aiming carefully I deploy my finger at the button. Steady now, I can’t afford to miss. Almost there!
“Peachy, no.” I hear the sound and I can’t help but yell in anger and frustration.
I look back and sure enough, mommy is watching me. With my finger hovering in front of the button, I contemplate pressing it. If I press the button, mommy will be upset. If I don’t press the button, it won’t get pressed. I weigh the pros and cons carefully.
“No Peachy. No touching.” I sigh and put my finger away.
How did mommy know I was at the button again? How does mommy always seem to know when I’m trying to be sneaky? I go flap, flap, flap as I wiggle back over to my toy. I play like a good girl while I ponder this mystery.
So cute! I can’t wait for my little one to start exploring too. #BloggerClubUK
It’s a game changer. Things were so much easier when I cold just plop Peachy down and know that she would be in the same spot if something else needed my attention. Now I can’t take my eyes off her for a minute. But it is really cute when she comes over to me and demands snuggles. Thanks for reading.
Ahhhh I always love posts that are written from the child’s point of view – so adorable! And really helps us to understand what is going on in your lovely little heads. Thanks for sharing with #coolmumclub xoxo
Thanks. Peachy is so expressive that it’s usually easy to see what she’s thinking. I often speak on her behalf. My husband makes fun of me all the time because I end up having conversations with myself. Thanks for reading.
Oh my, the power switches. We’re struggling with that over here, too. Though our littlest has zero regard for the word “no”. Love the flap flap flap images. Just perfect! 😀 Thanks for sharing at the #happynowlinkup!
The cutest is when Peachy manages to press the button that opens the DVD player. She’s always amazed when the DVD tray comes out. Thanks for reading.
