The Beat of a Different Drum: Bright Starts Light & Learn Drum Review

I’m so excited to tell you about the great new toy I discovered in my toy chest. It is so much fun to play with. It amazes me every time. I’m sure that you will love it too. My new toy is the Light & Learn Drum.

This toy is made by Bright Starts. That’s the same company that made my Clack and Slide Activity Ball. If Bright Starts keeps making toys like these, they’ll find themselves on my list of preferred baby toy vendors.

My Light & Learn Drum is amazing! No complicated buttons or gizmos here. All you need to do is tap the center of the drum, and the fun begins. If you know how to work your hands, you can use this toy.

Once you tap the drum, prepare to be amazed. Your efforts will be rewarded with fun sounds and a dazzling display of colorful lights. When you look into the drum, you will see that the lights appear to go on forever.

I don’t know how all those lights fit into such a small space. They seem to extend well beyond the confines of the drum. I wish I could get my hands in there to investigate. It’s not possible to touch those lights. Trust me, I’ve tried.

My Favorite Features of the Light & Learn Drum

The Light & Learn Drum has three modes of play. The musical mode plays tunes when you tap the drum. The numbers mode counts up to five drum taps before playing a song. The colors mode names the colored lights as they appear. All three modes are great, but I think I like the musical mode best.

This toy is trilingual! There are three language settings. You can learn in English, French, or Spanish. Any of the three modes of play can be activated in any of the three languages.

As a bonus, the reflective surface of the drum also works as a mirror, so you never have to play alone. I spend lots of time drumming and admiring the cute baby in the mirror. Spoiler alert: it’s me.

The drum is the perfect size for tiny hands like mine, and it’s light enough for me to carry from one play area to another. It even fits in the diaper bag for fun on the go (as long as Mommy remembers to pack it).

If you’re looking for a baby toy that promotes early learning, sensory development, and hand-eye coordination, the Light & Learn Drum delivers on all fronts. It’s bright, it’s musical, and it’s super entertaining. Just ask any baby (like me).
