The Bath Time Song: How to Make Bath Time Fun for Baby Through Music and Play
I used to think bath time was the worst part of my day. The water was cold, the air was colder, and no matter how fast Mommy moved, I always ended up shivering. She’d wrap me in a towel and say, “All done,” but I was already mad. Those baby bath time struggles were real. If you’re wondering how to make bath time fun for baby, it’s not about the bubbles or the toys. It’s about staying warm. And I was not.
The very first bath I had after coming home from the hospital was horrible. I was born in the winter, and it was so very cold. My bathwater wasn’t even close to warm enough. Because Mommy was afraid of hurting me, she made the water only lukewarm. I cried and screamed the entire time to tell them how cold I was, but she didn’t seem to understand me.
My first bath experience was so terrible that I was expecting another dreadful experience the second time, and I was terrified of being cold. Once again, I cried and screamed from beginning to end. Mommy tried to comfort me, but I was just too frightened. The second bath was a little better, and the water was much warmer, but I was too busy expecting the worst to notice.

The following couple of baths went the same way. I hated bathing, and I wanted Mommy to understand so that she would stop making me do it. So I screamed as loud as I knew how, but it didn’t seem like I was getting through to her at all. I know she could hear me. She seemed very distressed at my screaming, but she still insisted on putting me in that baby bathtub. Bath time was an awful experience for both of us.

Then, one day, while Mommy was getting me ready for another bath, and I was beginning to get fussy about it, Mommy started to sing. It was a very special song that I couldn’t help but listen to. I had to stop screaming so that I could hear it better. That’s when Mommy invented our special bath time song.
Ever since then, bath time has become a different experience. Instead of being terrified, I became curious. Upon looking around, I noticed that my baby bathtub was on top of the kitchen sink. There is a window that I can look out of and interesting things lined up on the windowsill.
The water flows out of the faucet and directly into my tub. One of my favorite things to do while I’m having my bath is touching the stream of water that comes out of that tap. I try to grab it, but it always slips through my fingers. I can see the water, but I just can’t grab it. It’s like the stream is there and not there at the same time. I’m pretty sure that it’s magic.

Those first awful baths are just a distant memory now. It’s amazing how much more wonderful things are when you aren’t afraid. There is so much to see, experience, and explore. I am so happy that Mommy invented our bath time song.
The Bath Time Song
Here are the words to our bath time song. Maybe it will help you the next time you’re feeling anxious about your bath. It’s a big hit at our house!
Rub-a-dub. Rub-a-dub.
We wash Peachy in the tub.
We make her fresh and smelling clean.
The cleanest little peach we’ve ever seen.
Rub-a-dub. Rub-a-dub.
Scrub, scrub, scrub right in the tub.
The bubbles take away the stink.
We rinse and send them down the sink.
Now I love bath time. I splash, I sing, and I know Mommy will keep me warm. The bath time song is our special thing, and it makes me feel safe every single night. If you’re facing baby bath time struggles, don’t give up. Mommy figured out how to make bath time fun for baby, and it all started with listening, cuddling, and a little bit of music.
